Introduction

This cookies policy (the “Cookies Policy”) explains how OK Law Advocates LLP (“OK Law”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on the website at oklawafrica.com (the “website”). It should be read together with our Privacy Policy and our Terms and Conditions, which continue to apply to your use of the website.

Who we are

OK Law Advocates LLP is a law firm registered in Kenya as a limited liability partnership under the Limited Liability Partnership Act (Cap. 30), Certificate of Registration Number LLP – 8515M7. For the purposes of the Data Protection Act No. 24 of 2019 (the “DPA”), we are the data controller in respect of personal information collected through the website.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device when you visit it. Cookies allow the website to recognise your device on your return, to remember choices you have made, and to tell us how the website is being used. We also use similar technologies such as pixels, tags and local storage, and in this Cookies Policy we refer to all of them as “cookies”.

Cookies set by us are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another organisation whose service we use on the website are called third-party cookies. A session cookie is deleted when you close your browser. A persistent cookie remains on your device until it expires or you delete it.

The categories of cookies we use

We group the cookies on this website into four categories.

  1. Strictly necessary cookies. These are required for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They include cookies that keep your session secure, remember the contents of a form you are completing, and record the cookie choices you make on the banner. Without them, parts of the website will not work.
  2. Preference cookies. These remember choices you make, such as your language, so that the website behaves in the way you expect on your next visit.
  3. Analytics cookies. These help us understand how visitors use the website – which pages are read, how long is spent on them and whether anything returns an error – so that we can improve it. The information is collected in aggregate form.
  4. Marketing cookies. These may be used to measure the effectiveness of our publications and campaigns, and to limit the number of times you are shown the same item.

Only the strictly necessary cookies are set before you make a choice. Preference, analytics and marketing cookies are set only if you consent to them.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies on this website are set by third parties whose services we use, including Google (for website analytics) and, where content is embedded, the provider of that content. Those third parties process the information in accordance with their own privacy and cookies policies, over which we have no control. We encourage you to read them.

Our lawful basis

We set strictly necessary cookies on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating a secure and functioning website. All other cookies are set only with your consent, which you give through the cookie banner. You may withdraw your consent at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before you withdrew it.

Your choices and how to change them

When you first visit the website you are shown a cookie banner. You may accept all cookies, reject all cookies other than those that are strictly necessary, or open the preferences panel and choose category by category. Your choice is recorded on your device and is remembered for six months, after which you will be asked again.

You may change or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting Cookie settings in the footer of any page on the website.

Managing cookies in your browser

Independently of the banner, your browser allows you to see what cookies are stored on your device, to delete them, and to refuse cookies generally or from particular websites. The relevant settings are usually found under “Privacy” or “Site settings” in your browser menu, and the browser’s help function will explain how to use them. Please note that if you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of this website may not work.

Your rights

Where cookies collect personal information, you have the rights set out in the DPA and described in our Privacy Policy, including the right to be informed, to access your personal information, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to its processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the cookies we use or in the law. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated, and we encourage you to review it when you visit the website.
